Costs should drop as GM sells more Volts, and should be substantially
lower after eight years, Stephens said. He said used batteries can be
shipped to GM to be rebuilt to extend their lives. Customers also
would have the option of disposing of them, he said.

I bid a job for a company that maintains batteries for fork lifts
about 4 years ago. They had old dos hardware and their system
wouldn't work when based on a new server.

Anyway they recycled batteries and that is what will be done with
these new cars as well. You will not have to replace one in a car for
10,000. You can do the same for your laptop battery as well. If
you were to crack it open you would see a bunch of smaller batteries
bound together.
