I'm working on an issue reported by one of our end users which is a complaint about page loading speed for one of our education websites.
At first I of course chalked it up to the usual end user whining, but she walked me thru it and sure enough, this site is REALLY slow. There are two menu options at the top, and as I go back and forth between them the pages take approx 13 seconds each to load. Browsing some other sites, for giggles, to test my general connection speed, pages seemed snappy enough... no performance problems there. BUT this page uses a login and an HTTPS protocol from there on out. AHA! I thought... of course it's slow - it's all encrypted so we'll just have to deal with it. But I did the exact same thing in FireFox, and even though it is also using the HTTPS protocol, the pages take perhaps 2 seconds to load.... I kinda poked around between the security settings of each and confirmed that they are both using SSL3.0 and TLS1.0 - but I don't really know what else to look for. I am assuming that our corporate policy from the Mothership has something set for IE that is slowing this down - but what could it be?
