Some comments that caught my eye when scanning over the reviews: 1) This *Cisco* 10/100 8-Port VPN Router is an advanced Internet-sharing network solution for your small business needs...The 10/100 8-Port VPN Router can serve as a DHCP Server, and has a powerful SPI firewall to protect your PCs against intruders and most known Internet attacks... 2) I can tell you that the CPU used in the RV082 and RV016 is faster than the one in the RV042. Leland's comment: Seems logical that more ports equals more load on the router requiring stronger cpu up to the task. 3) System Specs: CPU: Intel IXP425-533 DRAM: 32M Flash: 16M -- Robert Burgoyne Leland's comment. Should be pretty fast, even using high encryption over VPN, lots of security like IP packet inspection, DoS, ping, or general, attacks, extensive logging, email logs and alerts to me, etc. The cup in the VP082 is designed specifically for networking. 4) Rock-solid performance. Have multiple Gateway VPNs running to other offices. No problems. No reboots required. Uses Intel Intel IXP425-533 (an advanced Broadband CPU chip set built just for networks). Most changes don't require restarts. Easy enough to set up. Advanced features might reqr advanced knowledge. Came w/o latest Firmware, but still works great. 5) Other Thoughts: //If you are buying this for everything minus the VPN capability, you won't be disappointed. Leland's comments: Many reviewers seems to have issues with Virtual Private Networking, (eg VPN). 6) I've had this router since early in 2000 and it has proven to be a very reliable router. Recently, I checked the system up-time on the router and it had performed its job for nearly one-year without reboots, resets, or any other hiccup. I am surprised in this world where technology changes almost daily that Linksys still sells and actively supports this router after 8-years. I've used most of the features on this router with the exception of the VPN clients. My experience with this router leads me to highly recommend it to anyone who needs reliable and flexible networking for their small business or at home. / 7) / Lack of an in-depth manual could account for many of the poor reviews. The manual could be more detailed to further explain the features that the poor reviews here say don't exist. Also it hasn't been updated for sometime and major features have been added to the firmware such as the bandwidth management type page that are not in the manual. For this price, you would expect a better manual. 8) Quick start: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/csbr/rv082/quick_start/guide/rv082_qig.pdf 9) Admin: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/routers/csbr/rv082/administration/guide/RV082_V10_UG_D-WEB.pdf Regards, LelandJ > > > On Fri, Oct 15, 2010 at 10:49 AM, Leland Jackson<[email protected]> > wrote: >> On 10/15/2010 03:12 AM, Adam Buckland wrote: >>> Draytek routers... no contest. >>> >>> http://tinyurl.com/3ygc2kj Vigor2710VDn >>> http://tinyurl.com/37apwaz Vigor2820Vn ADSL2+ Security Firewall >>> >>> Sent by my butler >> I couldn't find a Draytek SOHO router with 8 ports.
