Hi Tracy

Looked at all the tables in the queries folder. None of these were part
of a DBC.

Then I noticed that there was something wrong with "membrenewal.dbf"  in
the command window.
It was spelt
"membrenewal .dbf"
Removed the space before the . and now it showed in the connection
wizard "Select Database and Table dialogue.
On selecting and saving the odc file everything worked.

Peter,

When you created the table, are you sure it's not part of a database? 
If you have VFP IDE handy, opening the table and pulling the databases
dropdown on the standard toolbar will show it quickly enough.
Otherwise, look at using ADatabases() after opening the table.
