As you know I repair computers for my clients and in the last two weeks two of
them got hit with a very clever computer scam. It appears to be world-wide. One
client actually paid $100.00 before realizing that something was not right.

Here is how it works:
A caller, usually from India, makes a phone call and announces he is from
Microsoft or other and that their networks are being infected with viruses or
generating too much traffic from the person's computer. So they need to install
an antivirus program or check their computer to block the traffic. Apparently
they are very persuasive and can keep a person on the phone for 30 minutes or
more trying to get their credit card number to make a payment. They even give
out a phone number to call back to verify the transaction. The number is bogus.
The scam has a number of variations.

I Googled the name of the outfit, "OnLineRepairWorld.com" and got hundreds of
hits praising the firm's product. All of them were links to this same company.
Moving through the hits I found this link (
http://www.theogray.com/blog/2010/07/international-routing-system) unrelated to
OnLine and listing many correspondents who experienced the same scam.
