How large is the data set and how many records would be used  at one time?

You have a hard decision here.  Learn the new way that will continue
over the next 5-10 years or learn West Wind and maybe get 3+ years
with server OS changing in the future.

You could set up a web service to update your VFP data from the web in
real time, maybe.  The web page sounds all to easy it is the sync with
dbfs that will be tough.
