Technically humans are at the top of the food chain, if you insist on using a forth grade definition of the term. LOL The immune system plays its part in fighting viruses. If the first exposure to the antigen is not fatal, the immune system will build up a resistance to it. Should the virus attack again, the immune system is then prepared to fight it. The antigen can be introduced naturally or by vaccine. Antibiotics have been used extensively to boost the immune system's response to harmful bacteria, but bacteria have now adapted to form resistance against most antibiotics.
