Agreed.  Something else to bear in mind:

You might want to look at bug tracking when looking for a solution.

Some SC systems allow you to log a bug and assign it to a developer.
When the developer fixes the bug they can check in the code and mark
the bug as fixed.

Normally you can extract release notes from the SC system too.
