Gary - just a little FYI - in regards to Open Source.

One example is OpenOffice. Its equivalent to MS Office. However, Office
is a "closed" type platform - in that they keep all the code - and all
the code is developed at MS. An open Source application is generally
free, the code is freely available, and many people spend their own
personal time adding code to a project. There are many, MANY types of
open source projects out there. Although, even if you use an open sourse
App - it doesn't mean you have to contribute additional code to it. You
could simply use the application. But, if its an App that really
interests you, and is developed in a language you work with - then you
might want to consider working on the project.

Goodluck!

I am handicapped and somewhat homebound. I have learned what programming
skills I have by reading the books you guys write. I am trying to learn
php/mysql right now and have gotten stuck in the same area from two
separate
books. Uploading/files. The open source thing sounds like some
Uploading/files. The open source thing sounds like something I'd like
to
learn more about.
Thanks

I'd suggest you might Google for "gymnastic scoring program"
(1,320,000 hits) or even better "open source gymnastic scoring
program" and find something that someone has already done and perhaps
contribute and enhance it. As a benefit, you might get the chance to
learn how an open source project works and learn a bit about an open
source language (perl, python, php, or...)

I'll bet this happens in communities world-wide and you can find code
you can build on.
