I realize some of these suggestions seem a bit far fetched, but if your data is important to you then you do what you gotta do... It may seem silly but I don't think driving a nail thru a drive or shooting it full of holes is good enough - if someone really really really wanted to read what was left of the drive, they could devise a way to do that. It would just be missing some info but that doesn't mean that the 1/4" of the surface you missed doesn't contain exactly what YOU value most. Of course this is beyond the means of 99.99999999% of anyone but doesn't mean it can't be done. If I couldn't write all 0's and then all 1's or whatever it is these wipe-drive things do then I wouldn't say the drive is clean regardless of how strong a magnet you park it under. If you want to be REALLY sure it doesn't fall into the wrong hands, just pony up the $$$ for the new drive and keep the old one yourself and throw it in the company safety deposit box with a note on it that says "KEEP FOREVER".
