I started into computing after seeing an advert for a computer kit called
the Nascom I. This was 1977
www.old-computers.com/museum/computer.asp?c=814

Travelled to London and queued for a few hour outside a shop called Henry's
Radio to buy the second one issued.
Took it home and spent some hours in my kitchen soldering it together and
remember how pleased I was to get it working.
At this time I was s service manager for a local company who amongst their
many interests were the sale and repair of TV's Videos Hi-Fi's etc.
My fellow workers thought I was mad when I showed it working and could not
understand what all the fuss was about. No comments on what my wife thought
about it.
I persuaded my boss to start selling microcomputers and we sold most of the
computers mentioned, in particular the BBC, The ZX81/Spectrum, The Commodore
models and the Atari.
The Nascom grew from a single board with 4k and a 4k basic rom to a 64k
machine running CPM with twin 5.25" floppies running a stock control system
which I wrote in assembler.
Incidentally the Floppy drives where purchased for £150.00 each and the
extra memory board complete with all its 1k memory chips was over £200.00
One thing happened which is now repeating itself. This was when I finally
typed in all the hex code for what was a forerunner of "Froggy" called
lollypop lady trainer.
You had to get the Lady through the traffic and across the road. I spent
about half an hour trying to get her across when my three year old daughter
came up the stairs to tell me that my dinner was ready. When she saw what I
was doing she asked if she could try, so I showed her what to do and started
to walk down the stairs. I nearly reached the bottom to hear the words
"I've done it Daddy" How often do I have to ask my Grandchildren how to use
my phone or work a game these days?

Does anyone have a "Chucky egg" disk for a Tatung Einstein computer?.

Cheers

Peter Hart
