Hey Ted - thanks for the input. AFAIK - the lights on the router are all
on, well as my laptop. As for a Wireless light on my laptop. Well - my
laptop has always kinda SUCKED. Massive problems with it. Its AlienWare.
I think it was just a Bad model - although - some folks blame it all on
Vista. The lights for the Wifi, Bluetooth, audio - they tend to be
Flacky - and sometimes not working right. But, I will ALSO check that!

As for EtherNet - I already plugged that in - but, it didn't work
either!

I shall also try the IpConfig (which, ahem - you wrote as IfConfig -
but, I knew what you meant).

Anyway - I will have to try these things out tonite - and I shall try
and report back tomorrow about the results!

And - MICHAEL - Sorry for Hi-Jacking Your E-mail thread (although - it
only happened since I seemed to be having the same kinda problems...)!

L8r,
-K-

While we all complain about calling big corporate tech support,
following the basic script usually identifies the most problems in the
least time/cost:

- Is it turned on?
- is it plugged in?
- are the little blinky lights on?
- (if Windows/consumer-grade appliances) turn it off and turn it back on

Before proceeding, make sure you have a good backup and/or image of
the machine.

Is there a wireless light? Is it on?
Is there an on/off switch for the antennae? Often, this is hidden in
an obscure spot on the edge of the machine or near the hinge.

Boot with a LiveCD/USBtab and see if the problem exists in the other OS.

Use an ethernet cable to determine if the machine can connect to the
network on that interface (which would mean your networking stack's
okay, but your wireless driver might be the problem)

Back in Windows, wireless: run 'ifconfig' to see if the interfaces
have IP addresses. Ping the local interface (127.0.0.1) to confirm the
network software is working, then the NIC's address (often something
like 192.168.1.100 or 10.0.0.5)

Many Windows OEM machines come with Microsoft's networking tools AND
tools added by the OEM. One or the other needs to control the wireless
device, or conflicts result.

Tell us what you find out.
