I was checking to see if this problem affected any of the other user
accounts, so I logged-in as one, and everything came up just fine. So I
logged-out and logged back in as the problem user (to perform these
actions), and guess what/ That's right, the problem magically went away. I'm
not sure why, but I guess as long as the problem has resolved itself, who
cares.
Is there a log file on the system that reports all of the messages that are
displayed during the system boot? The reason I ask is that I noticed a
message fly by that said a sound card was not defined, but sound is working
ok. I would like to look into this some more and see if this might be the
reason that GMIX isn't working.

Probably the most brutal way to fix it is to delete all your .gnome and
.sawfish directories in your home directory (assuming that this is just
affecting the one user).

I just ran apt-get update & apt-get upgrade. 9 packages were updated without
incident. I rebooted the PC, and logged back in. Now, I can not get File
Manager to work. The icons that were on the bottom left-hand side of the
screen are gone. I tried to manually run File Manager from the menu, and
didn't receive any errors, but there are still no icons or an active File
Manager window. Has anyone else seen this problem, and more importantly, how
do I fix it?
