This happened to me after updating to the new gnome....after reboot, all of
my desktop icons were gone and all of my custom toolbars...i started
freaking as i had just spent the previous hour making them.......somehow i
envoked the gnome file manager(i think it was by,as user, pressing both
mouse buttons at the same time(third button emulation) and envoking it from
the resulting "floating" taskbar....all of a sudden my desktop icons and
toolbars "magically" appeared as well as my custom tool bar...only then
would i get the icons w/rooot and other users.....upgrade must somehow screw
with the reference to the .gnome directory
