Did you install gpm (the console/text-mode mouse program) and have it
running? My mouse simply would not behave under Progeny in X if gpm was
running- try removing gpm from startup and rebooting.
If you don't have gpm running, the only other time I've seen the mouse
behave like this is when it is configured as the wrong type... try
IMPS/2 or Intellimouse, etc..
