Finally decided to risk installing j801 on my MacBook. Printed out system/installation/j801 - j Wiki. Downloaded j801_mac32.dmg. Copied the J801 folder to my home directory. (Didn't know I could do that from a .dmg file, but I must have for J602 and J701 I guess.) Noticed that the readme file said I had the J801 Beta. Depending on where I go to find the release notes I get either J801 or J701, which is disconcerting. Jcon801 and jhs801 passed the "i.5" test, so I opened jqt801 and found help/studio/labs, which failed with a syntax error in labs_run_jqtide. Yet another wiki document told me I also had to run install 'qtide' So I did, and stuff happened, and I quit and restarted, but the lab error was not resolved. (I ignored the profile script instructions assuming that if earlier J versions worked from the same home directory, I should be ok.)
