FWTW, "left" would ring truest with me, as the graphics software
I've encountered tends to rotate things Anticlockwise by default.
(And I think of that as "left".)

So, please bethink ye that ye may be mistaken. Come up with a better
mnemonic if you can - perhaps "rotate lower" or "rotate down" - but please
not just "rotate".
