That was the missing link. In Fedora 24 it's called "qutebrowser"
In addition to jqt.sh, there's also an updatejqt.sh, which I'd tried to run earlier and hit the same roadblock, probably for the same reason. The readme.txt says: "updatejqt.sh - update JQt binaries" I have a feeling that's best left undone, could mess up what got installed with qutebrowser. Thanks!
