Thanks for pointing me to the unicode operator, that was what I was looking for.
Unfortunately I now find that (1!:3)&2 doesn't really append. (1!:3)&2 ^:3 'a' a a a a This isn't an emacs problem either, I get the same behavior in jqt and ijconsole.
