I see that on Safari, the arrows appear as tiny boxes, whereas on the other
browsers I tested, the boxes show correctly as arrows (as they do in your
forum email).

I replaced the original arrows with a new set which did work correctly on
Safari. Please check. You may need to adjust the horizontal positions of
the arrows.

We could replace this with a graphic, but it should be simpler to leave it
as preformatted text for now. Thanks.
