Re Joey Tuttle's comment about the message "There is a newer version of the base library." - I noticed this the other day: once you upgrade and install "all", you get this message but not if you then start a new J session. It looks like pacman may be comparing the currently running copy of J to what's available and giving you this message because, on this basis, you do not have the most recent version. You have to restart J to make the recently changed version the one you're using.
