Don't feel any pressure to move to 901. If 807 meets your needs and you are already investedt, by all means continue. A quick look at what 901 has done in this area might be worthwhile. Yes, there were changes and there are teething problems. But the changes were to make everything visible in J with less magic behind the scenes in C code. A bonus would be be that I'm sure Henry and others would be eager to help you out with 901.
