A bug-fix to jios is overdue since last November. Any day now…
2 things are holding it up:
-- viewmat with complex argument doesn't show the arrows. The fix should be
straightforward but it opens a can of worms.
-- UIKit (the foundation for most existing iOS apps) has a serious bug in
its textView object, which jios uses to display the session log and the
text of a file to be edited.
This last glitch has me tearing my hair out. Apple doesn't admit it's a bug
– and if it is, it's too difficult to solve – and only a fool would write
an IDE to work under iOS, which for security reasons is actually designed
to be IDE-hostile (indeed: file-hostile). Getting textView to emulate a tty
is like herding cats.
75% of my development hours have been spent on this one issue. Basically
textEdit can't reliably find its own cursor and bring it into view. It
can't even reliably show the first or the last line of the file it's
editing. Attempts to force it can lock it solid. The next update has a host
of new features to address this issue. (I don't say "solve").
So… if users are finding the cursor can vanish off-screen – and can't be
brought back into view – I feel your pain.
The bug appears with long sessions with lines which overflow the screen
width. So… after running a lot of labs, it's good to clear the session log
(⌥⌘L) before continuing.
Workarounds: (1) try pressing the left/right arrow keys on the keyboard to
shuffle the cursor into view. (2) Go to another view (e.g. Slate) and back
again. (3) Press ⌘ + uparrow to show the first line, then press-and hold
downarrow to reach the last line. (Repeat until it's hopeless). (4) If all
else fails, clear the session log: ⌥⌘L .
Let me know what works for you. If you can consistently reproduce the
condition ("constipated textView") with the app out-of-the-box I'd be
absurdly grateful.
