J already uses whitespace to separate some words (e.g., 3 : vs. 3:), but, absent those simple cases, we largely have the freedom to use whitespace as we want to make the text look good and readable on the page. I'd rather not overload whitespace with even more responsibility, especially since it's a bit tricky on scanning: someone prints a J sentence in a report or email using a proportional font and, all of a sudden, you can't read it reliably anymore. I still encourage you to focus on grokking J rather than on improving J, for I think the effort will be vastly more helpful to you.
