Son of a gun! You're right. I just tried it for J and several other
programs and it works. Just to confuse things, some programs still
display the underscore before the ALT key is pressed (Netscape for one).
Personally I would prefer that the underscore always display because
without it I would have to wait until after I pressed the ALT key to
find out what letter key to press after the underscore is added.

I've heard that with Windows XP the underlines don't normally show up
until you
press the Alt key. This behavior is configurable in Win XP.
