Leigh, I just started following this thread but would also like to paste data from J into Excel. I've been using edit variable and the Paste in excel. Seems to work ok but I would like to try your method. Can you provide an example with each step required?

You've both confirmed to me that the clipboard is the way to go. I found negative numbers to be converted with hyphens in the 8!: functions. The following tacit function does everything that I need: PasteToExcel =: 13 : 'wdclipwrite ;(<@(,&CRLF)@}:@;)"1 (,&TAB) each 8!:0 y' Sincerely, Leigh ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For information about J forums see http://www.jsoftware.com/forums.htm ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For information about J forums see http://www.jsoftware.com/forums.htm
