Leigh -

I just added the warning I gave you about negative numbers, plus other
potential pitfalls with numbers
from Excel, on the J Wiki at http://www.jsoftware.com/jwiki/Scripts/OLEExcel
in the section
"Caveats About Ugliness and Other Things".

As you deal with some of these issues and write code for handling it, it
would be helpful for you
to either update this page or start on new page and link to this one.

Thanks,

Devon

Leigh,

I just started following this thread but would also like to paste data
from J into Excel. I've been using edit variable and the Paste in excel.
Seems to work ok but I would like to try your method. Can you provide an
example with each step required?

Thanks, Leonard

Subject: FW: [Jprogramming] Passing a J Array to Excel

Dear J Forum:

Thank you, Bill and Devon, for your help. You've both confirmed to me
that
the clipboard is the way to go. I found negative numbers to be
converted
with hyphens in the 8!: functions. The following tacit function does
everything that I need:

PasteToExcel =: 13 : 'wdclipwrite ;(<@(,&CRLF)@}:@;)"1 (,&TAB) each 8!:0
y'

Sincerely,

Leigh
