OK - this worked fine for me both from the DOS command line under emacs and using "shell" (from task.ijs) in the jconsole under emacs. The possibilities are staggering. I always figured they were there but didn't think it could be so easy.
I've met someone in the Capital IQ group - the company that provides the data to Yahoo Finance - and he tells me they will see spikes of activity of accesses to their data during the middle of the night New York time. They suspect it's automated processes harvesting their data. He could be right :).
