You could also use  mc  =: ". bind   or   mc  =: (3 :) (@])  etc.  

But now you've come full circle.  You're trying to hide explicitness in
tacitness.  Why?

What is the advantage of  

      r3 =: ('d' mc) {~ ] |~ [: # ('d' mc)

over

      r1 =:  3 : 'd {~ y |~ #d'   

?    Why not be up front about explicitness?
