Oh, meant to say this is a good idea and should be done (even if the links are red for a while, ie the vocab pages aren't created). -Dan Please excuse typos; composed on a handheld device. -----Original Message----- From: "Dan Bron" <j...@bron.us> Date: Tue, 9 Feb 2010 12:32:57 To: J Programming<programming@jsoftware.com> Subject: Re: [Jprogramming] The Accessible Dictionary > Any reason why I shouldn't just > go ahead with this? Well, I see a few: we haven't finalized the format yet (so if we make a change, we'll get backwards compatibility issues), we don't even know what tools we'll use to enforce the final structure (eg CSS, transclusion, or other tools invisible in the Wikitext and to page authors), automatically posting all the pages will make it more difficult to distinguish "work done" from "work to be done" (using the Wiki's natural "red link" mechanisms), and autoposting all the pages enjoys no particular advantage over creating a template/example page to copy/paste from. Taking this into account, particularly the last point, maybe a good way forward is to link example/template pages off the shiny new "Parts of speech" page (because, of course, there will be a different format/template for each part of speech). That will serve the dual aims of allowing us to collaborate on the final format of the pages, and (when completed) give newbies some direction and context when reading real Vocab entries (ie it will document the structure of Vocab entries analogous to [1]). -Dan [1] §III, structure of (official) Vocab entries: www.jsoftware.com/help/dictionary/dict3.htm I think meta-documentation like this is very helpful and we should include as much of it as reasonable. I shall of course contrive not to lose existing content, and will alter http://www.jsoftware.com/jwiki/Vocabulary/ to link correctly. Any reason why I shouldn't just go ahead with this?
