I tried downloading the latest stable version of wget (1.11.4) from 
http://www.christopherlewis.com/WGet/WGetFiles.htm

Used wget to download from the command prompt:

C:\myfolder>wget http://www.jsoftware.com/zippy.gif
C:\myfolder>wget -O - -q http://www.jsoftware.com/zippy.gif > zippystdout.gif
C:\myfolder>dir *.gif
...
27/01/2010  12:38            43,143 zippy.gif
11/08/2010  12:47            43,316 zippystdout.gif
...

Using J I confirmed that the difference is extra CRs.
So a newer version of wget (J ships with 1.10.2) doesn't seem to solve the 
problem.

What version of wget are you using?
