Perhaps, however browsing the mailing lists for wget my feeling is that the issue is more to do with low levels of focus on Windows support/development (the last version for Windows was released in 2008)
I decided to look at cURL and it seems that its development is currently more active, and supported on more platforms than wget (http://curl.haxx.se/download.html). I downloaded curl.exe from http://www.paehl.com/open_source/?download=curl_721_0_ssl.zip It doesn't convert LFs to CRLFs on stdout: C:\myfolder>curl -o - -s -S http://www.jsoftware.com/zippy.gif > zippycurl.gif C:\myfolder>dir *.gif ... 27/01/2010 12:38 43,143 zippy.gif NB. download as file using wget 11/08/2010 15:10 43,143 zippycurl.gif NB. using cURL via stdout 11/08/2010 12:47 43,316 zippystdout.gif NB. using wget via stdout ... AFAICS J doesn't really use the features of wget that differentiate it from cURL, I wonder if for J7 whether it may not be better to standardize on cURL for all platforms rather than wget? The availability of cURL as a library is also a plus.
