I completely agree that surveyors are entitled to their opinions about notation,
as well as accountants to theirs and air navigators to theirs, no matter how
obsolete and for whatever reasons.
 
I was just making a point that the verbs to deal with all those special cases do
not belong to standard general purpose library.
 
Besides, a bad practice is still a bad practice even if "everybody is doing it 
because a
program from HP library from 40 years ago was doing it".
