Indeed. It (and the very few languages in its lineage) are deep; and
they connect directly back to FP, the language that founded what we
now call Functional Programming. Read about FP, and what you see will
look more like J than any so-called functional language.

"Factor but backwards" is a fair way to look at it, when it helps. J's
syntax is in some sense the opposite of Factor's, since Factor was
inspired by Concatenative languages, while J is one of the more purely
Applicative languages I've seen.
