One of the main reasons for split up of the perform_request_search (in my
case) was the need to call the search functionality from inside Solr. This
means that I am actually calling the pieces of the search functionality
(even if it is not an official API). That would not be possible if they
were inside the function namespace. It works very well by now, but I
haven't sent the latest updates - shall do that tomorrow...
