Reading up your investigation notes above, you are on the good track, but
let me fix this issue myself because it will be quicker this way.
Otherwise you would have to wonder about long-deprecated things such as
`wau` vs `au`, pay attention to things like `get_index_id_from_field()`
being called for intermediate `fi`, and stuff. So I'm now going to make
the `CFG_WEBSEARCH_FIELDS_CONVERT` facility work again (should be ready
after the lunch) and you can then take over and continue with populating
and testing SPIRES search operator mappings.
