The cite summary format (hcs) is the first example of the
forthcoming 'summary' format family. Many summary formats can
come later, e.g. a curator-like output format that will summarize
what is wrong with the given collection (or with the given set of
records) comes to mind.
Since various summary formats can be offered for various
collections, the formats should live in the usual 'format' table
alongside the regular formats such as HB, HD. The BibFormat
output format definitions should therefore be extended to provide
a type of format too, e.g. via an addition of a 'type char(1)'
column in the format table. The values could be 'R' (regular),
'S' (summary). (Eventually we could also think of possibly
dropping the 'visibility' column and using 'I' (invisible) or
something of the kind to mark those internal mini-panel formats.)
The BibFormat Admin interface should then be altered to ignore
the S format family, because their output is implemented via the
search_engine_summarizer.py scripts and friends.
(Once done, the search_engine_summarizer.py should be slightly
refactored in order to offer an easily pluggable architecture for
people willing to write their own summarizers. One option would
be to resemble the external authentication plug-in system, with
people writing their own search_engine_summarizer_journals.py and
search_engine_summarizer_missing_authors.py etc. But this will
become a Savannah task of its own once we shall have a real need
to provide more than one demo summary format.)
