Yes, that's the GC on/off workaround we are going to commit in any case.
The patch may be actually interesting to your site conditions as well,
since IIRC you may have around 2M of records or thereabouts?

Yes, it is one of our design goals that Invenio should run out of the
box there.  One of our build boxes is running Debian/Stable for this
very reason.  

(BTW, Invenio releases happen on Debian/Testing, just in case you are
curious about the usage of Debian/Stable vs Debian/Testing.)
