The thing is that only regular daughters of a virtual father collection
are shown on the right-hand side. You probably want to make all sons of
your virtual collections real, in which case they will be displayed in
the Focus-on part of the tree.

Concretely speaking, `AUST Institutes and Departments' and `Students and
Reserchers' are two virtual collections that offer an orthogonal way of
navigating inside the AUST document corpus that is otherwise classified
according to document type on the lhs. (This constitutes `regular
classification' while `Students and Researchers' constitute `virtual
classification'.) But, within `Students and Researchers' virtual
collection itself, the sub-collections `PhD' and `MSc' offer regular
sub-classification of this collection, so to speak; there is no other
classification there. Hence, if you make all collection types regular
except for the first rhs level -- `AUST Institutes and Departments' and
`Students and Reserchers' should stay virtual -- you may achieve what
you are looking for.

The above regular-virtual link type setup offers flexible and complex
scenarios where a certain virtual collection can have both regular and
virtual daughters defined, possibly further nested and cross-nested.
(Still, only regular daughters will be shown on the home page.)

If I have misunderstood your use case scenario, please let me know.

Best regards
