Hi!

Anyway, it seems that bibupload doesn't really like a -c with an fft
tag. It dies with an error.

The FFT correct mode works slightly differently than the metadata
correct mode, see the BibUpload Admin Guide. In order to attach a brand
new file to an existing record, the FFT append mode should be used. So
yes, your solution (FFT -a) is indeed intended.

What was the error? Was it descriptive enough? If not, we should
probably fix it.

The error was ok and descriptive enough. I just ran into this issue
while I had to do some migration. Bascially, I had a bunch of
bibliographic records that needed unifications (-c for metadata) and
files attached. At some point the files would be a revision, since there
existed already a full text document, in other cases there was none.

After splitting the file stuff from metadata everyting was ok.

(BTW, note that you could also use `bibdocfile' CLI calls in order to
attach your fulltext files, not creating FFT stubs.)

I'll check this out, thanks for this pointer.

BTW: this repeatable field issue in -c mode can be quite dangerous.

The documentation mentions that the original fields are removed and
replaced by those from the MARCXML file, but we should probably make it
even more obvious by a concrete example in the BibUpload Admin Guide...

I know. Even read that and understood that. Still, I came across this
feature while brushing up some metadata and I just missed the point that
"in some rare cases" there is a date there that I do not get unless I
read in the original record. So, everything was fine in all my tests,
though in the final go I dropped a bunch of handle-Ids by accident. :S
Probably, one could consider a behaviour along the line of -i/-r. If I
try to -i a record that already exists it throws an error. Similarly, a
-c that comes accross a repeatable field in the original record could
halt and notify while some other parameter could overwrite it (so
similar to -ir). Just a thought, though.
