Indeed, in order to edit records that were not submitted via WebSubmit,
the best way is to use BibEdit.
I think we hit a twofold problem here.
For something like our "Modify this record" link you actually need to
read out the bibliographic record, so it is not a simple link. (Even
without the fancy "show it only if you have the necessary rights and
always use the proper submit mask"-stuff we do here.) Most likely it
wound't be a simple link anyway as you need to know which submission
mask. We store this in a 3367_ subfield. In case it helps the format
element we use here is quite generic, I could supply this.
The second point is that you need to generate 037__a in a unique way if
you migrate records and want allow webmodify for them. One has to keep
this in mind. This might not be altogether trivial if you have to ingest
from various sources. Unless, and unfortunately we did not do that, you
build your websubmission routines in such a way that you can use them as
a CLI ingester. Would have been clever in the first place and we'll work
on that soon for our functions. If I'd have to do it from scratch I'd
now keep that in mind.
In a way, in our use case, we deliberately disabled webmodify for our
migrated records and forced bibedit for this just by means of not
generating 037.
However, the drawback is that you need staff for bibedit that while our
websubmit is also suitable for our secretaries.
