The collegues at DESY tried that setup AFAIK. If I got it correctly it worked, but they had some issues with migration of DB dumps due to changes in MySQL / utf. (Coming from an SL5.<something>) Robert, who worked on this, however, is in Helsinki this week for the OR2014.
