Hi!

The command line search interface you are looking for is implemented as "simple
search". It is safe to just forget about the "advanced search" as it is
actually quite limited compared to simple search. (Please note that we do very
complex queries using this in join2, as we actually produce all publication
stats for internal evaluation using this interface. Ok, the computer uses this
interface, but you could acually enter all searches by hand as well.)

For field values: invenio comes with a bunch of predefined fields like title
instead of ti. If you want to you could add new indices with new fields and/or
rename the indices already present. However, I'd suggest to use replacements
sparingly. For a user it is much easier if all systems use the same names.

Subject: Invenio's expert search interface

Hello,

I recently discovered Invenio at a IAEA meeting in a presentation made by a
CERN member (Invenio was just mentioned but was not the topic of the
presentation).

I would like to know if Invenio can be used to search a bibliographic database
with records written in XML, and if Invenio is (or can be) fitted with an
expert “command line” search interface (combining Booleans, parentheses,
truncations, proximity operators etc). An example of command-line query can be
something like:

(("MEASURING-INSTRUMENTS" or "IN-CORE-INSTRUMENTS) in de) or (((reactor
instrum*) or (nuclear instrum*) or (physical adj instrum* adj control*) or
(measur* near5 (instrum* or syst*))) in ti,ab)

“ti” meaning “title”; “ab” meaning “abstract”; “de” meaning “descriptors”; “*”
being the truncation; “adj” meaning “adjacent to”; “near” is a proximity
operator, the number indicates the vicinity

If somebody can give me the information, it would be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Jérôme
