Actually the docs are already saying this:

  ``The collection query defines which documents belong to the given
    collection. It is equal to the search term that retrieves all
    documents belonging to the given collection, exactly as you would
    have typed it into the search interface. For example, to define a
    collection of all papers written by Ellis, you could set up your
    collection query to be author:Ellis. [...]''
