In fact, I dont know what I had in mind in my previous mail, but no,
htaccess is probably not activated an it should probably not be for
several reasons (gives up to users a lot of possibilities...). But I
do not remember exactly what choice I made in this regard one year
ago, so maybe it is available in fact.

Anyway, the way to go is not to mirror stuff using http (a protocol
not designed for that). The way to go is to use rsync or a script
using sftp, that would access the relevant directory using SSH
authentified with a key, a directory in a mode that would disallow web
users to access it (only group readable for instance).
