Forgot to mention: WebDAV can be mounted a drive letter using http(s) and/or 
network drive in
Windows operating systems (and Gnome, too). So file copy is as easy as 
drag-and-drop, copy/paste,
etc. I use this approach with one of my hosting companies presently (although 
there is no
Subversion backend), and it is really a pleasure.
