CAIRO: The United Nations Human Rights chief Navi Pillay said on Tuesday in Geneva that the number of Syria children killed in the ongoing violence in the country is over 500, raising the number from previous estimates of 400. On Tuesday, the massive crackdown by Syria President Bashar al-Assad entered its 25th consecutive day, with hundreds of people have been killed in the onslaught, which has left the international community angered over inaction. In January alone, 80 children were killed, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights said. Pillay cited unspecified reports as the source of her statement, which came just three weeks after the United Nations Children’s Fund made the previous estimate. Overall, more than 7,200 people have been killed in the nearly one-year long uprising against Assad in Syria, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
