British MPs sign motion in favor of positive relations with Cuba LONDON, June 19.-British MPs are demanding that their government should promote positive and independent relations with Cuba. The Commons motion, by chance numbered 1959, has close to 200 signatories, which is the view of its sponsors demonstrates the strength of the tendency to advocate positive dialogue with Cuba instead of playing along with and supporting U.S. pressure. Ian Gibson, a Labor MP and president of the multi-party Cuba group in Parliament - who presented the motion - noted in an article published in The Guardian: "If we are to promote the eradication of poverty and greater global cohesion, there must be a sense of justice and mutual respect. Our government should promote exchanges with nations like Cuba and see what we can learn from one another." And he added: "It must be hoped that the EU will resist US pressure, despite the tendency of countries like Poland and the Czech Republic to rush to do Washington's bidding." Rob Miller, a director of the UK Cuba Solidarity Campaign also spoke out in favor of support for Cuba, stating that it is crucial for the British government to promote closer ties and better relations with Cuba.
