http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2007-01/09/content_5585629.htm Indonesia uncertain about metal objects detected in Makassar strait JAKARTA, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- The Indonesian government cannot yet confirm that metal objects detected by a naval vessel on Monday are parts of the Adam Air jetliner that went missing in bad weather last week en route from Java to Manado in North Sulawesi with 102 people on board, a cabinet minister said. "No sign of the Adam Air plane has so far been found although the naval vessel KRI Fatahillah detected metal objects in Makassar Strait waters yesterday," Antara news agency quoted Transportation Minister Hatta Rajasa as saying here on Tuesday. The government and the search and rescue (SAR) team could not yet confirm that the metal objects represented the Adam Air plane, he said, adding that the SAR team would conduct a further investigation at the location where the metal objects were spotted. According to a latest report, another Indonesian naval ship, the KRI Ajak, has picked sonar signals indicating the presence of metal objects on the sea bed off Mamuju in Central Sulawesi corroborating the finding earlier made by the Navy's KRI Fatahillah. He said an oceanographic survey ship from the U.S. navy, the Mary Sears, had arrived in Sulawesi waters to help find the wreckage of the Adam Air plane. Officers at the Mary Sears and KRI Fatahillah had already coordinated to immediately carry out search operations. Besides the U.S., Singapore was also taking part in the search for the missing Adam Air plane. Canada had also sent a plane to take part in the effort. The Canadian plane arrived in Makassar on Tuesday and immediately left to join the search parties.
