Indonesian ferry Levina 1 caught fire on Thursday, killing at least 41 and leaving many missing. Charred passenger ferry sinks Agencies Jakarta: An Indonesian ferry gutted by a deadly fire sank unexpectedly on Sunday with investigation teams still on board, leaving at least three people missing and one dead. The Levina 1 had been towed back to port after catching fire on Thursday morning. Only 300 of the ferry's estimated 600 passengers are known to have survived. On Sunday, police, journalists and investigators boarded the ferry to survey the wreckage when it tilted and sank. "There were about 16 people inside, and we all rushed for our own safety as the ship suddenly tilted and submerged," said Mardianto, a local reporter. "I was on the third deck, and had to jump into the water." A TV cameraman and police officers could not be found, while at least four others were rushed to hospital with serious injuries. Earlier on Sunday, 21 more bodies were found, more than doubling the death toll from the disaster to 41, a navy spokesman said.
